Paralegals engage work in a lot of areas of human endeavor - from law firms to government offices, from trade unions to the armed forces, construction companies, accounting and engineering firms – as a matter of fact, anywhere that law-related work is performed, paralegals will almost certainly be employed.

Paralegals carrying out their duties in the private sector are normally employed by law firms and corporations. In very big commercial law firms, the duties of a paralegal will include assisting lawyers with legal transaction or litigation matters by organizing, copying, interviewing clients, taking depositions and tracking legal documents.

Paralegals may be employed in specialized areas of the law, concerning conveyancing, probate, matrimonial law or family law. A paralegal working in commerce may become involved in a variety of fields such as the financial sector, banks, building societies or insurance companies.

In the public sector, paralegals are working non-profit public law firms, government departments, local authorities, health care authorities, and the Police or Social Services. The tasks of the paralegal will vary reckoning on the type of paralegal of duties they work. For example, in the public sector, paralegals are more likely to be given the responsibility|called upon} to advise the public or work with clients in some fashion that lessens the workload for an attorney.

A Paralegal requires seriously both general and specialist training, because no matter where a paralegal works, several qualities and skills which a good paralegal should have in order to be able to acquit themselves honorably must be demanded.

A paralegal must speak splendidly, have organizational and time management skills, with the competence to work coincidentally on a variety of tasks. A skillful Paralegal should work correctly without supervision and possess the ability to work under pressure to meet tight deadlines.

Suitable technical comprehension is also a must, as the use of computers, software packages and databases have become fundamental to the storage and organization of legal documents. A Paralegal may be asked to organize information in databases, use software to track time billed to clients, or use software packages to compute financial information. A decent paralegal will also be considerate, professional, and cautious, and have high ethical standards.
